Donated hunting licenses for disabled veterans

The law lets Montana reissue a surrendered hunting license to a disabled veteran or disabled service member for a charity rehab hunt. To qualify, you must have a Purple Heart and either be medically retired or have a 70%+ disability rating from combat injuries, or be on active duty. You do not need to live in Montana, buy a conservation license, or pay a fee. You cannot receive one if you already got a donated license last calendar year. The reissued license covers the same species and hunting districts as the original. The limits in 87-2-702(3) and (4) do not apply to recipients under this program.

Rules to run and protect donated licenses

Fish, Wildlife & Parks can set rules to run the donation and reissue program. Surrendered or reissued licenses cannot be sold, traded, or auctioned. Only an eligible disabled veteran or disabled service member may use a reissued license.
