State grants for middle school career classes

Montana now funds career and technical classes in the middle grades. Each year, the Superintendent of Public Instruction gives state grants to districts with accredited junior high, middle school, or 7th–8th grade programs. The Superintendent sets the application, budgeting, and accounting rules. Districts must use this money to add to federal Perkins career and technical education funds. Grants are not limited by school size, and the distribution must be fair. For fiscal year 2027, the state provides $240,000 for this program, and lawmakers intend it to be part of the ongoing base next session.
