Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Permit holders: show valid permit in 3 days

If you had a valid disability parking permit at the time, show it in court or to the arresting officer within 3 business days. You will not be convicted or fined.

Tougher penalties for illegal and fraudulent disability parking

The law raises fines for parking in an accessible space without a permit: $150–$250 for a first offense, and $250–$500 after that. These violations are misdemeanors. If the driver is away, the car’s registered owner is liable unless the owner proves the car was used without consent. Lying to get, or helping someone unqualified get, disability plates or placards is a misdemeanor with at least a $300 fine or up to 10 hours of community service, or both. Police and local officers may enter public parking areas to enforce these rules.
