More seizure medicines now Schedule V

The law places several seizure and nerve‑pain drugs in Schedule V. These include lacosamide (Vimpat), pregabalin (Lyrica), gabapentin, ezogabine, brivaracetam, cenobamate, and ganaxalone. Salts and isomers are also covered. Doctors, pharmacies, and patients in Montana must follow Schedule V rules for making, prescribing, dispensing, and possessing these medicines.

Schedule V limits for low-dose narcotics

The law sets when some combo medicines count as Schedule V. Codeine: no more than 200 mg per 100 ml or 100 g. Dihydrocodeine or ethylmorphine: no more than 100 mg per 100 ml or 100 g. Opium: no more than 100 mg per 100 ml or 100 g. Diphenoxylate: no more than 2.5 mg per dose and at least 25 micrograms of atropine per dose. Difenoxin: no more than 0.5 mg per dose and at least 25 micrograms of atropine per dose. The product must also include nonnarcotic active ingredients that add real medical effect. Amounts are calculated as the free anhydrous base or alkaloid and include salts. Makers, prescribers, pharmacists, and patients must follow Schedule V rules for these products in Montana.

Schedule V rules for migraine and stimulant drugs

The law adds two other drugs to Schedule V. Pyrovalerone is a Schedule V stimulant. Lasmiditan, a migraine medicine, is also in Schedule V. Salts and isomers are covered. Makers, prescribers, pharmacies, and patients in Montana must follow Schedule V rules for these drugs.
