Key boards drop lawyer seat rule

The law says several named boards no longer need an attorney as a member. These include the Board of Pardons and Parole, Transportation Commission, Fish and Wildlife Commission, State Parks and Recreation Board, Hard‑rock Mining Impact Board, Livestock Loss Board, and the State Compensation Insurance Fund board. The governor can appoint members to these boards without the attorney requirement. This changes who can serve but does not set new fees or direct payments in the law.

State boards no longer require a lawyer

The law removes the old rule that quasi-judicial boards must include a Montana-licensed attorney. It also sets common rules for how members are appointed and confirmed, their terms, pay, travel, and how the board votes. The law takes effect on passage and approval. The new membership rules apply only to seats that open after that date. Current members keep serving until their terms end or they leave.
