County can end zoning district after hearing

The county board of commissioners can end a zoning district by resolution. The board must give public notice and hold a hearing. The county may do this when it chooses to follow the Montana Land Use Planning Act process. It may also do this when a larger county zoning district already covers the same land.

Owners can force vote to end zoning

You and your neighbors can trigger a vote to end your county zoning district. At least 20% of real property owners in the district must sign a written petition with their addresses. File it with the county clerk and recorder. The clerk date-stamps it and has 60 days to verify signatures. If at least 20% are valid, county commissioners must put the question on the ballot for registered voters in the district. If voters reject it, you must wait 3 years from the date of the original vote to try again.
