New advisory group on nutrient rules

The law creates a nutrient work group to advise DEQ. It includes public and private point sources, nonpoint sources, and other interested parties. The group advises on nutrient standards, how they are carried out, and economic impacts. It is advisory only and does not change permits or fees by itself.

State drops numeric nutrient limits in water

The law repeals DEQ-12A numeric nutrient standards adopted on August 8, 2014. DEQ must delete all references to DEQ-12A, base numeric nutrient standards, and nutrient variances from its water rules. DEQ also removes DEQ-12A from guidance, assessment methods, and TMDL calculations. Permits and planning no longer rely on DEQ-12A numbers. The law is effective immediately.
