Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 2 mixed.

Nonvoting board appointees can live outside

Nonvoting appointees to a water and sewer board must still be 18 or older, U.S. citizens, and registered to vote. They may live outside the district and do not need to own property there. This takes effect immediately.

Municipal appointees must know water system

A municipality’s appointee to a water and sewer board must have knowledge of the municipal water system. This raises the bar on subject-matter expertise for these appointments. This takes effect immediately.

Who can serve on water boards

The law sets who may serve on a county water and sewer board. You must be 18 or older, a U.S. citizen, and registered to vote. You must either live in the district or own real property there and live in Montana. Property owned through your company or a trust counts if you are an officer, partner, member, or trustee. This takes effect immediately.
