Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 0 costs, 3 mixed.

Birthdate and ID required to register

The law requires you to list your date of birth when you register to vote. If your application is accepted but missing ID or your birthdate, the election office registers you as provisional. You can later prove your identity so your registration becomes final.

Stricter ID checks for mailed ballots

If you vote by absentee or mail ballot, you must write your date of birth on the signature envelope. Election staff compare your signature and birthdate to your voter record or agent form and may not deliver or count the ballot until they match. If your birthdate is missing or does not match, the office will notify you, and you can fix it by mail, fax, electronic means, or in person before 8:00 p.m. on election day. A mailed ballot only counts if your signature and birthdate are verified and it arrives by 8:00 p.m. on election day.

Rules for nonregistered local mail voters

In local elections that allow nonregistered people to vote by mail, your signature and birthdate from the ballot request are used to verify your returned ballot. This can let you vote, but a mismatch may keep the ballot from being counted.
