Parties decide how to pick precinct committee representatives. A party may appoint them using its own rules, or run its own election. A party may also use the state primary, following election laws. When a seat is vacant, the party’s governing body fills it under party rules.
In a primary, if a party has the same or fewer candidates than open seats in a precinct, the election official may cancel that party’s contest. The official must then declare those candidates elected by acclamation and issue certificates. A write-in vote counts only if the person filed a write-in declaration by the deadline in 13-10-211(1). If there is a tie, the county central committee decides the winner.
The law sets who can serve as a party precinct committee representative. You must live in the precinct and be a registered voter there. Each party seats one person of each sex, as defined in state law, for every precinct at each primary. You cannot serve for more than one party during the same two-year term.
