Midday meal pay for state appointees

Appointed members of a state board, commission, or council get a midday meal allowance on any meeting day. Members of legislative subcommittees or select or interim committees also qualify. This applies no matter how close the meeting is to home or headquarters. It does not apply to legislative committee members during a legislative session.

Stricter travel meal rules for state workers

You can claim a meal allowance only if you travel more than 3 continuous hours in set windows. Regular hours windows: 12:01 a.m.–10:00 a.m.; 10:01 a.m.–3:00 p.m.; 3:01 p.m.–midnight. Night‑shift windows: 12:01 p.m.–10:00 p.m.; 10:01 p.m.–3:00 a.m.; 3:01 a.m.–noon. If all travel is in your travel shift, you get one meal. If it starts before or ends after your shift, and is 24 hours or less, you can get up to two. Your travel shift runs from one hour before to one hour after your normal work shift.
