Montana public safety training council membership changes

The law updates who sits on Montana’s public safety officer training council. The council can have up to 13 voting members. The Governor appoints them. Required seats are: a state law enforcement representative; a police chief; a sheriff; a Department of Corrections representative; a local nonadministrative officer; a detention center administrator or officer; a Montana‑certified tribal law enforcement representative; a county attorney; one member of the Board of Crime Control; a public safety communications officer; a misdemeanor probation officer certified by the council; and two Montana citizens at large. For some seats, the Governor may use recommendations from professional associations. The changes take effect on passage and approval, so they apply right away.
