More voices on career and technical education planning

The law sets who serves on Montana’s career and technical education state plan committee. The superintendent and the higher education commissioner each name three people from their advisory boards: two educators and one business or community representative. The labor commissioner adds the workforce board’s executive director or chair and one labor representative. This guarantees seats for educators, business, and labor in state CTE planning.

Regular career and technical education planning with workforce partners

The law requires at least three joint meetings each year with education leaders, the labor commissioner, teachers, students, labor groups, businesses, and training agencies. These meetings occur during regular sessions of the board of regents, the board of public education, and the state workforce innovation board. At these meetings, the committee reviews the state plan, finds problems in how federal CTE laws run in Montana, and identifies student and employer needs. When the committee submits a new or revised four-year plan, it must align with or be part of the federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act combined state plan.
