Members get $100 for each day they do task force work. They are repaid for travel under state rules. Full-time, salaried state or local employees do not get the $100 during regular work hours. They can get it only for work done outside regular hours or when using leave. They still get travel reimbursement.
The task force develops a framework to choose a location for the state shooting complex. It studies other regional facilities and drafts early specs and features. It writes a request for proposals so local governments and private groups can submit sites. It sends recommendations on development, location, and how to run the complex to the Governor, the Joint Appropriations Subcommittee on Natural Resources and Transportation, and the Joint Fish, Wildlife, and Parks Committee. By June 30, 2027, it must report to the Governor and the Economic Affairs Interim Committee.
The law creates the Montana State Shooting Complex Task Force. Members include the governor or designee; a state parks and recreation board member or designee; the commerce director or designee; two reps from Montana firearm, archery, or accessory companies; one public member for shooting sports; one public member for hunting or wildlife groups; two House members (Speaker names a co-chair); and two Senators (President names a co-chair). The task force is housed in the Department of Fish, Wildlife, and Parks for administrative support. Vacancies are filled the same way as the original appointment.
