More workforce housing allowed on state land

The law lets single-family and multifamily homes for workers count as a commercial use of state trust land when built under a master lease. The state can sign a master lease with a nonprofit to develop attainable workforce housing. Everyone must use the definition of “attainable workforce housing” in Montana Code 90-6-143. Other uses like farming and resource extraction remain outside this leasing category. The law does not provide funding or housing vouchers.
