Simpler sales rules for aquaculture

The law lets homemade aquaculture foods be sold or used in retail food places. No standard licensing, permits, certification, packaging, labeling, or inspection are required for these items. The item must meet the state's aquaculture product definition. Aquaculture products are also exempt from the usual method-of-sale rule. Sellers can use other methods than weight, length, area, or count. This lowers compliance steps but also reduces oversight.

Clear definitions for aquaculture products

The law defines aquaculture and aquaculture products. It defines "controlled conditions" and excludes ponds, lakes, reservoirs, rivers, oceans, and streams. Aquaculture products now count as "produce" and as "raw agricultural commodities." This clarifies which rules apply and can open produce markets for farmed fish, shellfish, and aquatic plants.
