SNAP and Medicaid appeals go to Department

If you appeal a SNAP, cash aid, nonfinancial help, or Medicaid decision after the law takes effect, the Department handles it. The Department sends prompt notice and gives you a fair hearing. It can review local office decisions and look at stalled applications. It can order another eligibility check and decide whether and how much help you get. These new appeal rules apply only to appeals filed after the effective date.

Board of Public Assistance ends in 2025

The law ends the Board of Public Assistance on October 1, 2025. Until then, the board stays in place to finish appeals filed on or before the law’s effective date. If a seat becomes vacant, it must be filled so appeals continue. Most other parts of the law take effect on passage and approval. Rights, penalties, and cases that began before the effective date stay the same.
