Reserved antlerless elk tags for landowners

In districts that issue Class A-9 or B-12 antlerless elk tags, qualifying landowners get a license on application. You qualify if you own or are under contract to buy 640+ contiguous acres and the department has documented elk use. You also qualify if you own 160+ contiguous production farm acres with department-documented elk damage in the last 2 years. Each year, 15% of these licenses are set aside for qualifying landowners. A landowner may designate an immediate family member or an employee to apply. An employee means a paid worker with state or federal tax withholding. A corporation may designate one shareholder.

Special elk permits now owners only

In districts with special elk permits, the law now requires you to own 640+ contiguous acres with department-documented elk use to qualify. Being under a contract to buy the land no longer counts. Each year, 15% of special permits are set aside for qualifying landowners. A qualifying landowner may have the permit issued to an immediate family member or to a full-time, year-round employee of the active farm or ranch. A corporation may name one shareholder to receive the permit.
