Beginning January 1, 2026, if you owe $50,000 or more in Montana state taxes, you must pay by electronic funds transfer. If the due date is on a Saturday, Sunday, or legal holiday, you may pay on the next business day. The Department of Revenue sets the rules for how to pay electronically and how returns match the payment. If electronic payment is not available to you, the rules provide another approved way to pay. This changes the payment method, not how much tax you owe.
