Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

Home slaughter for own use exempt

If you kill livestock in good faith for your own use, you do not need meat inspection or stamps. This exemption applies only when the meat is for your personal use.

Original livestock bill of sale filed

When someone claims a carcass and hide by a bill of sale, the inspector takes the original bill of sale and attaches it to the inspection certificate sent to the county clerk and recorder. If the bill covers other cattle or horses not inspected, the inspector gives the bill-owner a receipt that lists the remaining animals.

New hide and carcass checks at plants

Licensed slaughter plants must keep each hide whole, with tail and ears, until inspection in the county of slaughter. A state or deputy state stock inspector marks the hide as the department requires. This step is waived if the animal had a preslaughter inspection by a state or deputy state stock inspector. Every dressed carcass is ink-stamped as the department requires. The inspector keeps records and issues a certificate with the name and address, hide inspection serial number, brand (if any), date, and place. The inspector sends one copy to the department and gives one to the person who requested the inspection.
