Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Clearer holiday pay for state workers

Beginning July 1, 2025, if you are full-time and a legal holiday (not Sunday) falls on your scheduled day off, you get a paid day off. You must be in pay status on the last workday before or the first workday after the holiday. The paid day can be the day before the holiday or another day in the same pay period, as set with your supervisor. Part-time employees get prorated holiday pay under Department of Administration rules.

Nonteaching school staff excluded from holidays

Beginning July 1, 2025, nonteaching school district employees are not counted as employees for the state holiday rules in 2-18-603. They do not receive holiday pay or the floating holiday under that law.

Floating holiday for state workers, with limits

Beginning July 1, 2025, the law creates a floating holiday for covered state and legislative employees. Full-time workers get one paid day each calendar year; part-time workers get a prorated day. Unused time expires at year end, does not carry over, and is not paid when you leave. Short-term workers and student interns are not eligible for the floating holiday or holiday pay. Agencies and the legislature set the scheduling and use rules.
