Seniors’ pooled trust transfers protected for Medicaid

If you are 65 or older and move money into a pooled special needs trust that meets federal rules, the state treats that transfer as fair market value for Medicaid. You must show the trustee plans to use the money within your life expectancy to buy goods and services for you worth the same amount. This applies only as allowed by federal law. This helps you avoid transfer penalties and keep Medicaid, including for long-term care.

Seniors’ pooled trusts protected for Special Assistance

If you are 65 or older and move money into a pooled special needs trust that meets federal rules, the state treats that transfer as fair market value for State-County Special Assistance. You must show the trustee plans to use the money within your life expectancy to buy goods and services for you worth the same amount. This applies only as allowed by federal law. This helps you keep Special Assistance and lower your out-of-pocket support costs.
