Expanded prosthetic coverage for adults and children
Beginning January 1, 2027, qualifying New Hampshire group or blanket health plans must cover prosthetics for covered residents, including adults. Coverage includes parts, instruction, and repairs or replacements needed for medical reasons or to maximize use in the specific activity. Activity-specific devices help when an everyday prosthesis cannot work effectively or the activity risks damaging it or the remaining limb. Plans may limit these devices to one per plan year for children under 19. For adults 19 and older, plans may limit them to one every five years. Medically necessary prosthetics have no annual limits. Plans available through the Small Business Health Options Program (SHOP) are excluded from this specific coverage requirement. Related group-policy rules require coverage like other durable medical equipment for resident certificate holders employed in New Hampshire whose main workplace is there, subject to the special prosthetic coverage rules.
