Higher lawyer fee cap for injured workers

New Jersey raises the attorney fee cap for workers’ compensation claims from 20% to 25% of a favorable judgment. This applies to claims pending on or after August 22, 2024. Hearing officials may allow a reasonable fee, but do not have to allow the maximum. A compensation judge must approve the worker’s attorney fees before payment. A higher fee can leave the injured worker with less money from the judgment.
