Farms gain event space with limits

Beginning July 1, 2025, qualifying New Jersey farms can use certain newer permanent buildings for special occasion events. Commercial farms on preserved farmland must produce at least $10,000 in farm products annually. This approval covers buildings constructed fewer than five years before the application. Approval requires prior winery use for wine-related activities, or calendar-year event revenue capped at 10% of total farm revenue. The preservation grantee must approve the use in writing before events and review events annually. For the winery exception, construction must be complete, with final construction-office approval, before event approval. The law does not allow new permanent buildings to be built for these events.
