Fewer sentence credits for violent felony prisoners

In New Mexico, prisoners serving time for serious violent offenses can earn at most four days off per month served. The limit for nonviolent offenses is 30 days per month. Serious violent offenders earn no credits during the first 60 days after the Corrections Department receives them. Afterward, credits require active participation in programs recommended by a classification supervisor and approved by the warden or a designee.
