Beginning July 1, 2025, New Mexico's Livestock Board sets livestock service fees within these limits—not automatically at the maximum. Sheep and goat import or export inspections or permits cost up to $1 per head, plus $50 per inspection request. That per-head fee cannot rise more than 4 cents each fiscal year. Livestock inspections cost up to $2.50 per head; hide inspections cost up to $2.50 per hide. Each inspection request can also carry a service charge up to $50. Those per-head and per-hide fees cannot rise more than 10 cents each fiscal year. Brand transfers, brand recording or research, brand re-recording, and brand-exemption certificates each cost up to $200. Additional certified brand copies cost up to $20 each. Holding-brand recording costs up to $200 and lasts one year from recording; each annual renewal costs up to $100. Auction-market licenses, transportation permits, and cattle or sheep rest-station licenses each cost up to $100. Handling proceeds from the sale of stray livestock costs up to $75. Holding trespassing livestock costs up to $50 per head per day, plus a reasonable moving charge set by the Board. Seasonal grazing moves cost half the livestock inspection fee per head, rounded up to the nearest cent. Both grazing locations must be controlled by the same producer, and livestock ownership must stay the same.
