Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

6 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 3 costs, 1 mixed.

Aces plates available at DMV and dealers

The DMV designs and issues Las Vegas Aces plates for passenger cars and light commercial vehicles. You must meet Nevada’s normal registration rules. You can combine the plate with a personalized prestige plate. Authorized new‑vehicle dealers may accept your registration application when you ask for Aces plates. Dealers cannot charge extra fees, get paid by the DMV for issuing registration certificates, or accept renewal applications.

Donations and sample plates for Aces

The DMV may accept gifts, grants, and donations to produce and issue Aces plates. That money goes into the Revolving Account for Issuance of Special License Plates. The DMV also creates sample Aces plates and may charge a sample‑plate fee. Samples show “SAMPLE” and a unique code, and it is a misdemeanor to put a sample plate on a vehicle.

Keep or return Aces plates after sale

If you sell or dispose of a vehicle with Aces plates, you have two choices. You can keep the plates and move them to another eligible vehicle after you pay the registration transfer fee and any due registration fees or taxes. Or you must return the plates to the DMV within 30 days after you remove them.

Trailer limits and fees for special plates

The DMV does not issue Aces plates for full trailers or semitrailers registered under NRS 482.483(3). If you register a trailer for three years under NRS 482.2065, you must pay all registration fees and governmental services taxes for that full period. That also includes any special‑plate issuance and renewal fees that apply.

What you pay for Aces plates

You pay $35 for the Aces plate plus an extra $25 at first issue ($60 total for the plate), in addition to other registration fees and taxes. Renewal costs $10 plus an extra $20 ($30 total for the plate), again plus other fees and taxes. Replacing an Aces plate costs $10 per replacement plate or set. The State Treasurer sends the additional fees to the Las Vegas Aces Foundation each quarter for in‑state programs in health and fitness, disadvantaged children and families, education, and women in sports.

Oversight and exemptions for Aces plates

Aces plates are treated as special license plates under Nevada law. They follow standard rules like reporting, viability checks, and limits unless a statute says otherwise. The law also exempts the Aces plates from NRS 482.36705.
