Emergency rules to keep eggs on shelves

During national egg supply problems, the State Quarantine Officer can temporarily relax Nevada’s egg-sale rules. The Officer can allow sale of non-cage-free eggs and Grade B eggs, and let small-flock farms sell to Nevada retailers. The Officer can also limit or stop state and local governments from buying eggs. Each suspension can last up to 120 consecutive days, with no more than two in a calendar year. The Officer must give at least 14 days of public notice before ending a suspension. Triggers include a foreign animal disease, a federally declared disease emergency, or a natural disaster.

State enforces egg rules and suspensions

The State Quarantine Officer sets the rules for when and how egg-rule suspensions happen. The Officer enforces the egg-sale laws and the new suspension authority. The Officer can issue regulations needed to carry this out.
