Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.

Juvenile and child welfare e-filing

Court clerks may let key juvenile justice and child welfare papers be filed online. These include juvenile petitions and related case documents, court studies and reports, and child protection petitions and reports. Any electronic filing must include the filer’s electronic signature, as defined by Nevada’s e-filing rules.

Electronic filing and service in criminal cases

Courts accept criminal complaints, informations, motions, and notices online. Prosecutors must sign these with an electronic signature. The clerk time-stamps receipt and returns the stamped copy electronically. Electronically filed or served papers may be printed and served like paper. If you have an attorney, your attorney can be served electronically when the office can receive and store the files, unless a law or the court requires personal service. If you serve a document electronically and must also file it, include proof of the electronic transmittal with the filed original. Electronic filing or service finished by 11:59 p.m. counts for that date.
