Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

7 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 1 costs, 3 mixed.

PTs can practice across state lines

Beginning July 1, 2025, Nevada enters the Physical Therapy Licensure Compact. A licensed PT or PTA from another Compact state can practice in Nevada with a compact privilege instead of getting a separate Nevada license. In Nevada, that compact privilege has the same legal status as a Nevada license.

New rules and fees for PT Compact

Starting July 1, 2025, to use a compact privilege you must hold a home‑state license, have no encumbrances, and have no adverse actions in the past two years. You must notify the Commission, meet any Nevada law‑study rules, and pay required fees. Your compact privilege ends when your home‑state license expires. If your home license is encumbered, you lose all compact privileges until it is cleared and two years pass. Nevada can collect your fingerprints and send them to the FBI for required background checks.

Stronger investigations and discipline under Compact

Starting July 1, 2025, Nevada can remove a compact privilege, fine a practitioner, issue subpoenas, and recover investigation costs when state law allows. The Nevada Board can also share investigation documents with other licensing boards and law enforcement, subject to confidentiality rules. These tools protect patients but raise risks and costs for practitioners who violate rules.

Compact commission, rules, and shared data

Beginning July 1, 2025, the law creates the Physical Therapy Compact Commission. The Commission can make binding rules, run a shared database of licenses and adverse actions, and audit and manage its budget. Member states must join the data system, use background checks, handle complaints, and report adverse actions. The Commission may fund itself with state assessments and fees, and its personnel have legal immunity for official acts.

Military PTs and spouses pick home state

Beginning July 1, 2025, active‑duty service members and their spouses can choose their Compact home state. You may select your home of record, your PCS state, or your current state of residence. This makes it easier to keep working when you move for military orders.

Updated terms for licensed physical therapists

Beginning July 1, 2025, Nevada statutes replace “registered physical therapist” with “licensed physical therapist.” This improves clarity and keeps the law consistent with modern terms.

License display and small name-change fee

Beginning July 1, 2025, PTs must display a Nevada license or proof of Compact authorization. The Board may charge up to $25 to change a name on a license. A PTA’s license remains valid while a supervising PT provides supervision.
