Pathway to firefighter jobs for former offenders

The State Forester Firewarden must run a hiring program for firefighter jobs in the Division of Forestry. A former offender can be appointed if they worked in a conservation camp on firefighting, finished the camp’s firefighting training, and hold the required firefighter certifications. They must also meet any other job rules the State Forester sets. The law allows appointments but does not guarantee a job or set pay.

Transitional housing and forestry training for eligible offenders

The Department of Corrections may set up a transitional housing program with the Division of Forestry. It serves offenders in custody who qualify for minimum security and were denied parole only because no housing was available. The housing includes training in forestry management and conservation. The law does not promise placement, pay, or funding.
