Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 0 costs, 0 mixed.

No denial for not helping police

You are not automatically denied compensation for failing to cooperate with law enforcement. Other disqualifications in the law still apply.

Victims get more time to apply

You can apply for victim compensation up to 60 months after the injury or death. If you were a minor when injured, you have 60 months after you turn 21. The Director can waive these deadlines for good cause.

More ways to prove victim claims

You can use many types of documents to prove your claim. Examples include doctor reports (if available), police reports, protection orders, transcripts, and records from government or victim‑service groups. Affidavits from qualified third parties also count, including doctors, counselors, social workers, victim advocates, and resident clergy. The Director may accept other documents that show injury or death.
