Safety upgrades for transit operators in big counties

Regional transportation commissions in Nevada counties with 100,000 or more people must add safety gear for bus operators. They must install barriers that block unwanted entry into the operator’s workstation. They must add panic buttons and similar technology to reduce safety risks. They must post signs that explain criminal penalties for assault and battery against transit operators. A “transit operator” is a CDL holder who drives a public mass transit bus or similar vehicle that requires a CDL.

Spending cap lifted for local transit safety

The usual spending limit in NRS 354.599 does not apply to local government costs tied to this law. Local governments can spend the added money needed to carry out these transit safety rules.
