New limits on juvenile unclothed searches

The law sets strict rules for unclothed searches of children in juvenile facilities. A search is allowed only when staff reasonably suspect a weapon or contraband and have tried less intrusive methods. Two employees must be present for the whole search, and when possible they should match the child’s gender. The lead employee must file a written report within 72 hours. These rules apply to state, regional, and local juvenile facilities and take effect October 1, 2025.
