3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

More public safety workers count as police

Beginning July 1, 2026, more public safety jobs count as “police officer” under Nevada law. This now includes city or town marshals and deputies, DMV emissions and compliance investigators, school and university police, uniformed corrections and forensic staff with regular inmate contact, juvenile probation, game wardens, state park rangers, court bailiffs, and other listed roles, plus any Category I, II, or III peace officer not already listed. Covered officers get workers’ compensation protections and pay for temporary disabilities. They are excused from jury duty. A surviving spouse or child can qualify for certain group health programs tied to fallen police or firefighters.

State covers annual physicals for select DPS staff

Beginning July 1, 2025, the state pays for annual physicals for select Department of Public Safety staff. This covers the Chief Parole and Probation Officer and police officers in the Capitol Police Division. Funding is $3,235 for FY 2025–26 and $8,129 for FY 2026–27. Any leftover funds cannot be committed after June 30 each year and must be returned by Sept. 18, 2026, and Sept. 17, 2027.

Local governments must absorb related new costs

Beginning July 1, 2026, local governments cannot use NRS 354.599 to cover extra costs from this law. They must pay those added costs themselves.
