Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Standard crime reporting and public access

All Nevada justice and law agencies must send crime data to the State’s Central Repository using the national incident-based system (NIBRS). Agencies must submit criminal history and DNA records within 60 days after a case is resolved. If an arrest was for the wrong person, the agency must notify the Division and the Division must delete that arrest record. The Central Repository must post crime and domestic‑violence statistics online so people can view statewide data.

Fees for special crime data reports

The Central Repository can charge a reasonable fee for publications or special reports. Agencies that must submit crime data cannot be charged these fees. Fee money pays for the Repository’s operations or other uses set by the Legislature. Any leftover money at year end goes to the State General Fund.

More fingerprint sharing and privacy rules

For bookings, jobs, contracts, or occupational licenses, the State must get your full fingerprints. It may get one or more prints for mobile ID and other biometrics for arrests or investigations. The State sends these prints or biometrics to the FBI for its report. The Central Repository must also set rules for collecting, using, protecting, keeping, sharing, and destroying biometric data, including how you can ask to have your biometrics removed.
