Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

2 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Boats must slow near Tahoe shore

Boat operators on Lake Tahoe must go 5 nautical miles per hour or less within 600 feet of the shore. It is a misdemeanor to break this rule. Existing 5-knot limits also apply within 100 feet of people in the water and within 200 feet of beaches, floats, and passenger landings.

More local enforcement of Tahoe water rules

In Nevada waters of Lake Tahoe, peace officers can enforce certain Tahoe Regional Planning Agency water rules. They can hand out TRPA educational materials, give an oral advisory, or issue a warning citation for violations of sections 60.1.3(E) or 84.10 (as of August 25, 2024). If an officer issues a warning citation, they must send the person’s name and address to TRPA. During an emergency or disaster, law enforcement and public safety agencies are not bound by those TRPA sections while protecting life or property.
