Supportive housing grants and tenant pet rights

The Housing Division runs a supportive housing grant program, if funded by the state. Grants can pay to acquire, build, and operate supportive housing and services for people with disabilities who faced or risk homelessness. The Division sets who can apply and how, and consults the state homelessness‑to‑housing council before approving development grants. Grantees must follow tenant‑protection laws and let each tenant keep at least one pet, subject to health and animal‑control rules. Each funded year, by December 1, the Division reports to the council chair, the Governor, and the Legislature (or the Legislative Commission if not in session), and may use the Supportive Housing Development Fund to prepare the report. The act exempts these reporting duties from one open‑meeting requirement.

No breed bias in home insurance

Insurers cannot deny, cancel, not renew, or raise the price of your policy just because of your dog’s breed. This applies to homeowners, renters, manufactured or mobile home, multi‑family dwelling, and umbrella policies. Insurers also may not ask your dog’s breed; they may ask only if the dog is known or officially declared dangerous. If a dog is known or declared dangerous under state law, an insurer may deny, cancel, not renew, or raise premiums based on sound underwriting.
