Presidential primary: $1,000 fee, Oct 1-15 filing

Beginning July 1, 2025, a qualified major political party presidential candidate must pay a $1,000 filing fee to appear on Nevada’s presidential preference primary ballot. You must file a declaration with the Secretary of State between October 1 and 5 p.m. on October 15 in the year before the primary. The fee is paid when you file and is not refundable unless another Nevada law allows a refund.

No filing fee for unpaid offices

Beginning July 1, 2025, if the office pays no compensation, a candidate does not have to pay a filing fee. This exemption applies to filing fees set by this law.

How to pay candidate filing fees

Beginning July 1, 2025, you must pay any candidate filing fee to the filing officer by cash, cashier’s check, or certified check. Other forms, like personal checks or cards, are not accepted. County clerks must send all filing fees to the county treasurer, who deposits them in the county general fund.
