Private plans: OB/GYN care without referral

If you are a woman in a Nevada‑regulated private plan, you can get covered OB/GYN care without a referral from your primary care doctor. You may choose an OB/GYN as your primary care doctor if she is in the plan’s network, meets the plan’s PCP rules, and agrees to the same terms as other PCPs. This applies to individual, employer group, HMO and managed care plans, hospital/medical service contracts, and fraternal society contracts. Voluntary purchasing group contracts follow these rules where state law does not conflict. For plans delivered, issued, or renewed on or after January 1, 2026, these terms are in force and any conflicting plan language is void.

Medicaid: OB/GYN care without referral

If you have Medicaid, you can get covered OB/GYN care without a referral from your primary care doctor. You may choose an OB/GYN as your primary care doctor if she meets the Department’s PCP rules and agrees to the same terms as other PCPs. This rule takes effect January 1, 2026.
