Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

4 provisions identified: 3 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Transit commission can hire needed staff

The regional transit commission can hire the staff it needs. This includes professional, technical, and clerical workers to run transit operations. The law does not promise any job or pay level.

Transit security can remove disorderly riders

Transit security employees can remove people from buses or other commission property when their actions break Nevada’s disorderly conduct law (NRS 203.100). This helps protect riders, employees, and property.

Unions get quick access to transit videos

Transit agencies and their operating contractors must keep any audio or video used in an employee discipline case, or that shows an incident that injured an employee, following state and federal law. The exclusive bargaining agent for those employees can get a copy if it sends a written request to both the commission and the contractor within 10 calendar days of the incident. Only recordings that meet these conditions must be shared.

Transit riders face new fines

The regional transit commission can fine riders who do not pay the proper fare. It can also fine riders who refuse to follow a regional or statewide health or safety rule. The commission sets the fine amounts and the process to issue and collect them.
