New training and pay rules for Regents

Beginning January 1, 2026, every Nevada Regent must complete training in the first and third year of each term. Each required year must include at least 6 hours. Each time, the training must cover Open Meeting Law and how to eliminate bias and discrimination in higher education. Other listed topics may be covered, like public records, ethics, campus safety, finance, and Regent duties. The Board Secretary helps set up the training and brings in experts, including from state or local agencies. After finishing, the member must give proof to the Secretary; if not finished or no proof, the Secretary posts a public notice online and notifies the other Regents. Regents get paid for training done outside Board meetings: one Board-meeting salary for each 3 hours, up to 18 hours per calendar year.
