3 provisions identified: 0 benefits, 2 costs, 1 mixed.

Cities and counties file biennial reports

After a county or city starts the waiver program, it must send a report every even-numbered year by October 1 to the Legislative Counsel Bureau. The report lists how many animals were adopted with the waiver and whether adopters were veterans, law enforcement, or first responders. These reports do not have to follow NRS 218D.380 rules.

Shelters must track and report adoptions

If a county or city starts the waiver program, shelters must keep records for each adoption under it. The shelter must report how many animals were adopted with the waiver and whether each adopter was a veteran, law enforcement officer, or first responder to the county board or city council.

Adoption fee waivers for veterans and first responders

Counties and cities can create a program that waives the shelter adoption fee. It applies only if the city or county runs or funds the shelter. The animal must be at least 6 months old and at the shelter 7 straight days. The waiver is for veterans, law enforcement officers, and first responders (firefighters or emergency medical providers). You must show valid ID, and you can use the waiver for only one animal every 6 months. The waiver does not cover licensing, vaccination, or medical treatment fees.
