Special education services continue after transfer

Beginning July 1, 2025, Nevada schools give comparable special education services right away when a child with a disability transfers. Staff consult with the parent or guardian. If the move is within Nevada, the school uses the current IEP or creates and uses a new one. If the move is from out of state, the school may examine the child and write a new IEP if needed.

Endorsement and test to teach art or music

Beginning July 1, 2026, to teach music or art you must get a state endorsement. This covers elementary, middle, junior high, and high schools. In addition to any coursework, you must pass a state-approved test in that subject. No endorsement is required at an elementary school in a district with fewer than 200,000 pupils. It is also not required at any elementary school with fewer than 500 pupils.
