Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 2 benefits, 1 costs, 0 mixed.

Legal fee awards for mandated reporters

Beginning July 1, 2025, if you are required to report child abuse or neglect and you win a lawsuit over a covered action, the court may order the other side to pay your reasonable attorney’s fees and costs. The judge decides the amount.

Stronger protections for child abuse reporters

Beginning July 1, 2025, Nevada law gives broader legal protection to people who act in good faith in child‑abuse cases. You are immune from civil and criminal claims when you report suspected abuse or neglect; conduct or allow child interviews, photos, X‑rays, or medical tests; review or share medical test results with child welfare, police, or prosecutors; hold, take custody of, or place a child in protective care; refer a case, recommend filing a petition, or take part in court. In lawsuits about these actions, the court starts by presuming you acted in good faith.

No immunity for negligent child-welfare action

Beginning July 1, 2025, immunity does not cover negligent performance of the specific child‑welfare action listed in NRS 432B.630(2)(b). If that action is done negligently, you can be sued and held liable. This limit applies only to negligent performance and does not affect good‑faith, non‑negligent actions covered elsewhere in the law.
