2 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 0 costs, 1 mixed.
The state health department, working with the mental health and addiction offices, must publish guidance so providers screen for depression during pregnancy and after birth. It says when to start, how often to screen, and how to refer for care. It asks providers to check for housing, food, safety, diaper needs, and barriers to care. It also includes screening for substance use and payment methods that reward screening. The department must post links to trainings on equity, bias, cultural competency, screening, treatment, patient resources, patients' rights, medicines, and trauma‑informed, patient‑centered care.
The law takes effect now. But section one begins on the same date as a 2024 maternal depression screening law. This lines up when the new guidance starts with that earlier law.
