Baby monitors need security and warnings

Starting 90 days after enactment, new baby monitors made only to send a child's audio or video over the internet must block unauthorized viewing or listening and include a clear warning to use security features. The warning must use at least 12-point type on the package or come with the monitor when sold or distributed; phones and security cameras are excluded. Manufacturers must ensure both rules are met. Local officials can enforce the law, with penalties of up to $250 for a first violation and $500 for later violations; local governments keep the money. Officials may adopt needed rules immediately, before the requirements take effect.
