Bill Overview

Analyzed Economic Effects

3 provisions identified: 1 benefits, 1 costs, 1 mixed.

Veteran maternity program delayed and rules repealed

The start of the veteran maternity care coordination program is delayed to one year after enactment. The law also repeals three prior subdivisions of the program statute. Some duties or services in those parts no longer apply.

Stronger coordination for veteran maternity care

The Department of Veterans’ Services now acts as a liaison to improve maternity care for veterans. The maternity care coordinator links the VA, the Health Department, and the Office of Mental Health. The coordinator shares information on veteran-specific pregnancy risks with providers and expectant veterans. At events, the coordinator gives guidance and referrals, including to the VA’s maternity care coordination program. The coordinator promotes the Veterans Community Care Program and posts resources and VA training links online.

More follow up info, less family guidance

Patient education materials must include follow-up support and list community mental health resources, when available. The law removes advice about involving family or the other parent. Materials now focus more on referrals and less on family-engagement guidance.
