Insurers and health plans must tell providers about any fees on credit card, virtual card, or EFT payments. They must also offer a no-fee way to get paid. A fee method can be used only if the provider, or a designee, opts in. That choice stays until the provider changes it in writing. Plans must make their payment vendors follow these rules, and contracts cannot waive the notice. They cannot charge a fee just to send an EFT unless the provider agrees. The rules start 180 days after the law is signed. They apply to policies and contracts issued, renewed, or changed on or after that day. A virtual credit card is a single-use number tied to a set dollar amount.
